RMG – Salesians preparing for WYD Seoul 2027
WYD will take place from 3 to 8 August 2027 and will have as its theme: “Take courage: I have overcome the world!” (Jn 16:33). Since its announcement by Pope Francis during WYD Lisbon 2023, the Salesians of South Korea have been actively involved in the local and national preparation of the event.
In keeping with the journey of the Korean Church, the Salesians of the country, in collaboration with the Central Sector for Youth Ministry and under the guidance of the Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, are planning initiatives aimed at young people from the Salesian world who will be taking part in World Youth Day.
The meeting provided an opportunity to define the main guidelines and clarify certain organisational aspects in view of the participation of the various provinces in this important ecclesial event. In particular, it was highlighted that in October 2026 the Salesians will take part in a meeting in Seoul with the Korean Church, aimed at defining the paths and stages of the immediate preparation for WYD.
At the same time, the team will be responsible for coordinating communications from Rome to the entire Congregation, providing guidance and useful tools to support the provinces’ participation. “The aim,” emphasised Fr Bejarano, “is to encourage all the provinces to participate in this major global Church event with adequate preparation.”
In the coming months, the Provincials and Youth Ministry Delegates will receive official communications from the Sector, containing detailed information on the Salesian presence at WYD and on the meetings specifically dedicated to the Salesian Family in Seoul.
The meeting concluded with the words of Fr Dominic Seong, who expressed the sentiments of the Salesians of Korea: “We are delighted to welcome you to Seoul. The Korean people are preparing with great enthusiasm and wish to share their faith, their culture and their spirit of hospitality with all the young people of the world.”
