(ANS – Berisso) – Since 24 May 2026, the image of Mary Help of Christians, Patroness of the Argentine city of Berisso, has occupied a prominent and permanent place of veneration at the headquarters of the Honourable Deliberative Council and the Municipality. This significant act of faith and public recognition was made possible thanks to the initiative of Emanuel Ruiz, a Salesian Past Pupil and member of ‘Batallón 10’ of the Exploradores de Don Bosco, who now manages the commercial division of the Río Santiago Shipyard. It was he who submitted the proposal to the city’s legislative body for the installation of the image of the Virgin in public buildings. The by-law, approved by the councillors, stipulated that the statue of Mary Help of Christians should be placed in a suitable location, so that all residents and visitors to the city could contemplate it and express their devotion as they approach the town hall. The explanatory memorandum to the by-law emphasised the deep historical bond linking the city to this Marian devotion, highlighting that the parish of Mary Help of Christians is the oldest church in the neighbourhood, founded on 1 March 1917, and that the Virgin is an indispensable symbol of guidance and protection for the community. The coming into force of this by-law marked an important cultural and religious milestone, bringing together ecclesiastical authorities, local institutions and the general public. Thanks to the efforts of Past Pupil Ruiz, the Town Council not only recognised the value of popular faith but also formalised a sincere gesture of gratitude towards the Patron Saint of Berisso.
