(ANS – Rio de Janeiro) – On 18 June, a group of lower secondary students from the Alberto Monteiro de Carvalho School (Salesian Jacarezinho) visited the Onda Verde NGO in Tinguá, located in Nova Iguaçu, near Rio de Janeiro. During the visit, the students toured the NGO’s headquarters, which consists of three buildings constructed using recycled materials, including polystyrene and shipping containers. They had the opportunity to observe native bee species found in the local ecosystem and took part in a lesson on the climate changes currently affecting Brazil, with particular emphasis on the impact of human activity on the worsening of global warming. The students also visited the NGO’s laboratory, where they learned about various animal species collected in the Tinguá Biological Reserve. The programme concluded with a quiz based on the knowledge acquired throughout the day, followed by a prize draw. The Onda Verde NGO is located near the Tinguá Biological Reserve, one of the most important protected areas of the Atlantic Forest in both the State of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. Its main areas of activity include environmental education, forest restoration, river water quality monitoring, and the training of young leaders committed to climate protection.
