Venezuela – Traces of hope: the Salesian Youth Movement brings the joy of Don Bosco to earthquake victims

(ANS – Caracas) – Faced with the suffering caused by the earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June, the Salesian Youth in Falcón did not stand idly by. Driven by love and compassion, a group of young people from the Salesian Youth Movement in the State of Falcón, accompanied by lay people and religious, undertook a journey of solidarity to the worst-affected areas, demonstrating a spirit of service. Their first stop was Caracas, where they visited the shelters housing families affected by the earthquake. There, the young people became bearers of light, sharing activities, games and smiles with the children, momentarily easing the heavy burden of the trauma they had experienced through the pedagogy of joy. Part of the delegation then travelled to La Guaira to provide direct support to the hardest-hit communities. As well as distributing water and material aid, the young people shared the gospel of Jesus Christ, offering words of encouragement and a brotherly presence. This meaningful experience, inspired by Jesus Christ in the style of Don Bosco, adds to the vibrant life of the Salesian Youth Movement in Venezuela. Through these actions, the young people demonstrate that faith is lived with both feet on the ground, transforming difficult circumstances into living testimonies of hope, charity and ecclesial communion.
