The event is set to open with a round-table discussion introducing the theme of the gathering and the related sessions, all centred on the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Association’s foundation. Hence the title of the Meeting, which draws on a phrase from the Promise by which Salesian Cooperators join the Association, responding to a call from God: Drawn by your merciful love.
In a spirit of family, the evening prayer on the first evening will be led for the participants by Mother Chiara Cazzuola, Mother General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), followed the next day, 1 August, by a talk by Fr Fabio Attard, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, entitled “Do whatever he tells you”, and the evening prayer on the same day, led by Sister Mafalda Diana, FMA Delegate for the Salesian Cooperators of the Region.
The programme will feature a mix of talks, group work and round-table discussions, designed not only to enliven and help participants internalise the distinctive and meaningful content of each individual presentation, but also to allow the ideas and insights that emerge from listening to take root, so that together we may glimpse the path forward for the Association’s future.
Each of the three days is anchored in the text of the Salesian Cooperators’ promise, tracing – through their titles – a spiritual and fruitful journey from which to draw inspiration.
The first day bears the title of the Meeting, emphasising how becoming a Salesian Cooperator represents a response to a call from on high. The title of the second day, on the other hand, reflects the desire to set out on a journey, for the Salesian Cooperators respond: “We want to love you again by doing good.” The third day, rather than a point of arrival, marks the beginning of a new life, which is why the inspiring title is: “This is why we make a promise”. Thus, everything that is heard and taken to heart becomes action and a programme for life.
Each day, supported by moments of prayer that mark its beginning, ends with moments of fellowship and joy that characterise the Salesian way of life. These include the show ‘Co-operators: women and men in love with a saint’ and the ‘150th Anniversary Grand Gala’.
