(ANS – Kapadvanj) – More than 677 women from 45 villages gathered at the DRISTI – Don Bosco centre in Kapadvanj to celebrate International Women’s Day and to celebrate the successful conclusion of the ‘100 days for an India free from child marriage’ campaign. The event, organised jointly by DRISTI – Don Bosco, the PRAYAS organisation and the Kheda Social Welfare Office, highlighted the urgent need to eliminate child marriage, widely recognised as a serious social evil that threatens the lives and futures of girls. The programme brought together key local administrative authorities and recognised figures from civil society, who emphasised the importance of community action in safeguarding the rights and dignity of girls. National Parliamentarian Devusinh Chauhan addressed those present with an inspiring message, urging mothers and community leaders to protect the future of girls by firmly rejecting the practice of child marriage. Ms Dharmishthaben Gajjar, Chair of the Gujarat State Commission for the Protection of Children’s Rights, called on women to take on leadership roles at the grassroots level to prevent child marriages and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to continue her education and build a secure future.
