India – DBSA Charts Roadmap for Youth Sports Development

(ANS – Dimapur) – Province Sports Coordinators of the All-India Don Bosco Sports Academy (DBSA) met at the Don Bosco Institute for Development and Leadership (DBIDL), Dimapur, to strengthen sports as a pathway to youth wellness, character formation, and professional careers. Mr. Keyi Putlang of the Dimapur District Football Association highlighted the rapid growth of football in Nagaland, noting its emergence as a viable career option, while also pointing to challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and limited funding that hinder young athletes. Fr. Patrick Lepcha, Delegate of Don Bosco Youth Animation South Asia, reaffirmed DBSA’s commitment to offering quality opportunities for youth, describing sport as a “school of fraternity, peace and faith” that promotes holistic growth. Fr. Josh Kanjooparambil, DBSA Director, presented a report on the recent All-India Don Bosco Inter-Province Football Championship and introduced the statutes of the newly formed national body, Don Bosco Sports India, aimed at promoting sports as a means of professional and integral development. Representatives from ten Salesian provinces shared regional reports, outlining achievements and challenges. The meeting concluded with a friendly basketball match, celebrating teamwork and Salesian sportsmanship.
