He was welcomed by Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial of Guwahati, who thanked him for taking time from his busy schedule to meet the youth and praised his youthful spirit and joyful presence. Fr Patrick Lepcha SDB, Director of Don Bosco Youth Animation (DBYA) South Asia, introduced Fr Raphael and highlighted his global role in animating Salesian Youth Ministry.
In his address, Fr Raphael reminded the young people that “we are all children of Don Bosco,” emphasising that Don Bosco’s legacy transcends religion, culture, and language. He encouraged them to “dream together” and build a culture of social friendship and fraternity, describing Don Bosco institutions as places where differences are respected and where people learn to work together as one human community.
Reflecting on Don Bosco’s spirituality, he highlighted three key elements: welcoming others with an open heart, being signs and bearers of hope for families, and building alliances with communities and people of goodwill. He also congratulated the youth of Northeast India for their vibrant spirit and rich cultural heritage. The session concluded with great enthusiasm, as the youth felt strengthened in their identity as members of the Salesian family.
On 3 March, during the Eucharist at DBI, Fr Raphael invited the Salesians to become agents of peace in today’s world and urged prayers for peace, especially in the Middle East.
Beginning his homily with the phrase “Clarity is the elder sister of charity,” he emphasised the need for clear vision in mission and ministry. He reminded the assembly that the Salesian mission is rooted in educating young people not only academically but also in moral, social, and spiritual values, forming citizens committed to justice and peace.
Encouraging respect for the cultures and traditions of the people they serve, he affirmed that the Salesian identity is to be “shepherds who bring peace into the world.” He challenged the participants to reflect on their personal mission and commitment to the poor.
The celebration gathered Provincials and delegates from across South Asia as part of their two-day assembly on leadership and youth ministry.
