India – First Salesian Cooperators Unit Established in Chhattisgarh

(ANS – Jokbhala, Chhattisgarh) – In a historic milestone for the Salesian mission in Chhattisgarh, 14 women of Mary Help of Christians Parish, Jokbhala, made their solemn promise as Salesian Cooperators on 16 May 2026, establishing the first-ever unit of the Association in the state. The celebration was presided over by Fr Davis Maniparamben, SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Jesus the Good Shepherd, New Delhi, who highlighted the vital role of the laity in the Salesian Family according to Don Bosco’s vision. Having completed their formation under Fr Chonhas Kujur and Fr James Jainiwas, the new Cooperators committed themselves to living the Salesian charism in their families and communities, especially in service of young people. Jokbhala, the first Salesian house in the region, continues its missionary outreach among tribal communities.
