(ANS – Quito) – With steady progress and tangible results on the ground, the Fundación Casa Campesina Cayambe continues to implement the project entitled: “Reducing child malnutrition in the indigenous communities of Cayambe and Pedro Moncayo in Ecuador, through the strengthening of the healthcare system and sustainable food production.” This initiative, funded by the Government of Cantabria and the Jóvenes y Desarrollo NGO is helping 147 children under the age of five who are suffering from malnutrition and anaemia. The children come from 15 communities in the parishes of Juan Montalvo, Otón, Ayora and Tupigachi. The project is becoming a key pillar in ensuring that children and their families in Cayambe and Pedro Moncayo can fully exercise their right to health and a healthy diet. In June, the beneficiary families received 27 emergency food kits and underwent formation on nutrition, hygiene and food safety. The Planning and Development Office of the Salesian Province of Ecuador provides support to the Fundación Casa Campesina Cayambe and, thanks to its collaboration with the Government and Jóvenes y Desarrollo, reaffirms its commitment to continuing to work towards a future where children are free from malnutrition, and where the well-being and dignity of indigenous communities are the priority.
