The Salesian Vsesvit high school in Zhytomyr and the Narnia school in Odessa organised commemorative ceremonies during which they prayed together in chapels and classrooms. Students, teachers and staff participated in the ceremonies, remembering the fallen, praying for peace, for the soldiers and for all the families affected by the war. Teachers also spoke to students about the importance of unity and individual responsibility for the future of the country.
On the evening of Sunday 22 February, an ecumenical service and joint prayer was held in Korostyshev, attended by representatives of all the Christian churches in the city, veterans and serving soldiers. The meeting symbolised the unity of the community, solidarity with the country’s defenders and the common hope for a just peace.
The ceremony was also attended by friends and benefactors of the Salesian world from Poland. At the Vsesvit high school, volunteers Magda, Andrzej and Wojtek led a creative project in which students helped paint the walls of the school shelter. The young participants also created images symbolising safety, support and hope. Thanks to this collective effort, the shelter has become a brighter and more welcoming place, helping children feel safer.
These events served as an important reminder of the difficult years Ukraine has experienced, emphasising the power of unity, mutual support and confidence in a peaceful future.
