The meeting was animated and guided by Fr Fidel Orendain, the General Councillor as part of the Social Communication Sector, who served as the principal speaker throughout the three-day meeting. His key sessions—“Communication Is Our Identity: Remaining Salesian in a World of Many Voices,” “Reframing Social Communication’s Identity and Role,” and “Crisis Management and Communication: The Salesian Way”—offered deep insights into the evolving mission of Salesian communication. Complementing these inputs, Dr Nicholas Oduor, a professor and media expect, delivered a significant session on “Opportunities and Challenges of Digital Evangelisation,” inviting participants to critically engage with the digital landscape as a vital space for mission today.
Structured moments of prayer, formation, and dialogue marked each day of the encounter. From the opening ceremony and thematic inputs to group discussions, delegate reporting, and collaborative sessions, the programme fostered active participation and meaningful exchange. A highlight of the second day was the afternoon visit to various Salesian presences in Nairobi. The delegates toured Bosco Boys Kuwinda, Bosco Boys Langata—where Fr Fidel blessed a newly set-up studio marking the occasion of AfriConnect—Don Bosco Utume, Don Bosco Boys Town, and Don Bosco Youth Education Services. This experience offered participants a concrete encounter with local Salesian works and strengthened their appreciation of the mission on the ground.
AfriConnect 2026 concluded with the formulation of resolutions and a common manifesto, reaffirming the commitment of Salesian communicators to work in unity, professionalism, and evangelizing creativity. More than a scheduled meeting, the event became a true continental experience of communion, highlighting that communication is not merely an instrument, but a vital expression of the Salesian mission among young people. The gathering in Nairobi stands as a strong sign of hope, collaboration, and renewed dedication to building a more connected and mission-driven Salesian presence across Africa.
