The Foundation recently restyled the Projects Area on its website, transforming what could have been just a web page into a real window on Salesian missions in 2026.
‘The Projects Area is the strategic heart of the DON BOSCO IN THE WORLD Foundation,’ explained Marcella Orsini, an anthropologist specialising in Peace and Development, who heads the Foundation’s Projects Area. ‘It is there that Don Bosco’s charism is put into concrete action. Day after day, we accompany the Salesian provinces in identifying needs, developing projects, implementing them and accessing funds, so that each mission can effectively use resources to educate, protect and transform.’
‘In recent months, we have worked carefully to collect, recount and make visible the good we are building together,’ added Bro Alberto Rodríguez Mármol, SDB, President of the Foundation. In the new Projects section of our website you can find many different stories, all small pieces of the great mosaic of Don Bosco’s dream, which after 200 years is still alive and relevant.’
For example, in this section you can learn about:
- The project in Niamey, Niger, where children fleeing war are welcomed by the Salesians: a mission twinned with the contest promoted by the Foundation in Italian Salesian schools;
- The training programme for students at the Salesian Institute of Graphic and Arts in Chennai, India, designed for young people from disadvantaged family and social backgrounds;
- the Salesian school in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, led by Italian Salesian Brother Roberto Panetto and designed around the needs of children from fragile and socially excluded backgrounds;
- Support for the establishment of the new Salesian educational centre in Damascus, in Syria, where education and educational activities offer new hope in a place still marked by war and instability;
- Support for the centre in Kankan, in Guinea, where, thanks to technical and vocational formation, the Salesians help young people to escape social marginalisation and build their own future;
- Contribution to the network of Salesian houses in Caracas, Venezuela: a local reference point for the reception, food security, health, protection and formation of minors;
- Support for the ‘Savio Juniorate’ in Mawlai, in India, which, thanks to the Foundation’s support, has been equipped with vehicles for transporting pupils and a cistern for collecting rainwater;
- Educational support for the village of Chhinchu, in Nepal, where personalised education programmes have been created for Dalit children and young people who are marginalised by society;
- The network of youth centres in Los Mochis, Mexico, which welcomes children and adolescents at risk of violence and exploitation.
And much more…
The work of the Projects Department of the DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation is a continuous dialogue with missionaries: a direct line that combines analysis of local contexts, listening to communities, and identifying risks and potential. The result is the development of projects that are relevant, sustainable, monitorable, and measurable. Without a culture of planning, good intentions remain just that. With the Projects Department, they become reality.
