(ANS – Lisbon) – On 17 January 2026, the Church of Our Lady Help of Christians in Lisbon hosted the priestly ordination of Fr João Ensina. The celebration was presided over by Bishop Joaquim Mendes, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Lisbon. Following a vocational journey discerned later in life, João Ensina was ordained a priest in the service of the Church, with a special dedication to young people in the Salesian charism. In his homily, the bishop described priestly ordination as “a profound joy born in the heart of God.” The new priest chose as his motto, “I consecrate myself for them” (Jn 17:19). In his words of thanksgiving, Fr Ensina expressed deep gratitude for his journey in education and pastoral accompaniment. Addressing the young people present, he invited them to trust in God’s call with realism and hope. At the conclusion of the celebration, Fr Tarcízio Morais, Salesian Provincial, encouraged the new priest to live his ministry with courage, joy, and fidelity.
