(ANS – Catania) – The second annual formation event dedicated to young Salesians in the Salesian Province of Sicily, Italy (ISI) took place on 8 and 9 March at the Provincial Centre in Catania. The days were an intense time of reflection, discussion and fraternity, in the educational tradition of St John Bosco which continues to guide the Salesian Family in its service to young people. The theme at the centre of the meeting was the prevention and understanding of abuse in educational and pastoral relationships. Through moments of reflection and dialogue, the participants addressed the complexity of the different forms of abuse – spiritual, emotional, psychological and sexual – with a clear and responsible perspective, aware that the Salesian educational mission today requires competence, vigilance and relational maturity more than ever. The initiative is part of a formation programme that aims to accompany young religious in the integral growth of their ministry, helping them to develop a pastoral sensitivity capable of combining care for people, transparency and responsibility. At the end of the meeting, Fr Domenico Saraniti, ISI Provincial, offered the Salesians a stimulating talk on pastoral asceticism and the mystagogy of educational assistance, recalling the heart of the Salesian charism: an educational presence capable of accompanying young people not only in their activities but above all in their inner journeys of human and spiritual growth.
