(ANS – Elche) – “Somos Lío” day was held at the Salesians’ San José Obrero centre in Elche and was attended by volunteers from all the FISAT Foundation’s projects in the Valencian Community. “Somos Lío” is a recreational, educational and testimonial gathering aimed at strengthening the bonds between volunteers across the foundation. This year, in response to volunteers’ requests, the main formation session addressed the topic of managing emotions when interacting with beneficiaries. In his welcome address, Fr Javier Sevilla, Rector of the Salesian House in Elche, recalled the trust that Don Bosco placed in young people. Nacho Beltrán, Director of the FISAT Foundation, emphasised the importance of volunteering as a way of approaching life: “Dedicating yourself to others changes your life.” Sergio Cebral, coordinator of the Lío Volunteering Project, thanked those present for the work carried out by each of the 45 projects of the FISAT Foundation. Alberto Andrés, head of Salesian Social Projects in Alicante, led the session which addressed the topic of managing emotions during voluntary work. He highlighted the importance of “being present” in volunteering. Clearing one’s mind and being mindful of the moment one is experiencing in order to be fully present for the other person, distinguishing between emotions and feelings.
