(ANS – Ragusa) – The courtyard of the Salesians in Ragusa was transformed into a veritable hub of active citizenship for the “Piazza della Legalità”, an event of extraordinary importance forming part of the “Sharing Dreams to Grow Together” project, funded by the Region of Sicily. The event offered the large number of young people at the GREST a unique opportunity to meet face-to-face with the men and women of the institutions, celebrating the everyday heroes who dedicate themselves to the safety and protection of the local area. The day saw the participation of the province’s highest-ranking institutional and military officials. The event was honoured by the presence of the Prefect of Ragusa, Tania Giallongo; the Colonel of the Carabinieri, Carmine Rosciano, the Chief Commander of the Ragusa Prison Service, Claudio Iacobelli, the Captain of the Guardia di Finanza, Guido Silvestri, the Fire Brigade Provincial, Fabio Cascone, the Chief Superintendent of the State Police, Dr Tancredi, and First Marshal Fichera of the Italian Army. The day therefore offered the young people the opportunity to gain a first-hand insight into the work of the law enforcement agencies and institutions through visits to the stands and a chance to talk with the authorities. The Prefect emphasised the importance of the rule of law, mutual respect, active listening and active citizenship, whilst the Capaci di Raccontare group gave a powerful testimony to the values of remembrance. The event concluded with the opening of the ‘Garden of Legality’, a new permanent symbol commemorating the victims of the Mafia and civic commitment. The entire day fully achieved the project’s objective, bridging the gap between the younger generations and the world of institutions, educating young people on the value of the common good and offering a profound opportunity for reflection on the rule of law as a daily practice, based on respect, listening and attention to the needs of the community.
