The Patriarch was welcomed and introduced to the community by the Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr Stefano Martoglio, SDB, who extended a warm greeting on behalf of the Salesian Family. Cardinal Pizzaballa’s presence was experienced as a moment of grace and ecclesial communion.
During his visit, Cardinal Pizzaballa shared in Vespers with the community and then offered the traditional ‘goodnight’, during which he shared some news about the Holy Land, inviting those present to pray perseveringly for peace and serenity in the Holy Land and to remain united in solidarity and hope.
In his talk Cardinal Pizzaballa also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Salesians for their work and mission in the Holy Land, recognising the value of the Salesian educational and pastoral presence at the service of young people and local communities.
The Patriarch then took part in the community dinner, enjoying a moment of simple and familiar fraternity, which was greatly appreciated by the confreres.
The visit took place in an atmosphere of listening, gratitude and trust. The Salesian community expressed great joy and gratitude for this fraternal visit, which was experienced as an encouragement to continue the Salesian mission with fidelity, hope and a spirit of service, trusting that the Lord will continue to guide the Church’s steps on the paths of peace.
