India – Rector Major Visits Don Bosco School, Alaknanda

The visit began with a ceremonial welcome, marked by a Guard of Honour by NCC cadets and a tour of the campus. The Rector Major was warmly escorted by the Salesian community and received with a standing ovation as he entered the school auditorium, where students greeted him with a showering of flower petals, reflecting their joy and reverence.

The programme opened with a welcome song by the school choir, followed by an audio visual presentation highlighting the life, mission, and educational journey of the institution. Fr. Binny Isaac, the Rector, Director, and Manager of the school, delivered the welcome address, expressing deep joy at receiving the Rector Major and reminding the gathering that his presence was that of a living Don Bosco among them.

A felicitation ceremony followed, during which the dignitaries were honoured with symbolic tokens of gratitude. Addressing the gathering, the Rector Major inspired students and staff with reflections on the life and mission of Don Bosco, emphasizing that his story is one of generosity, responsibility, and meaningful education for young people, especially those with limited opportunities. He highlighted that true happiness flows from the faithful fulfilment of one’s responsibilities, a message that resonated deeply with the Bosconian spirit.

A lively and engaging interactive session followed, during which students and teachers posed questions to the Rector Major, seeking guidance on life, education, and values. Responding with warmth and clarity, he stressed the importance of empathy, gratitude, and kindness, and reflected on the crucial role of educators in guiding young people amid an abundance of information in today’s world.

The programme continued with a self composed homage to Don Bosco, sung by students and teachers, expressing reverence, joy, and gratitude for the Rector Major’s presence and blessings. The visit concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Fr. Sujith Augustine, the Principal of the school, who expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the entire Don Bosco Alaknanda family.
