RMG – Fr Carlos Kabumba Balezi is the new Superior of the Salesian Vice-province of Africa Congo East

This is a new circumscription established at this significant historical moment to strengthen the Salesian presence in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Fr Carlos will officially take office on August 24, 2026, in Goma.

In the meantime, and in parallel with the appointment process, the confreres are engaged in the discernment for the composition of the first Council of the Vice-province and for the identification of the directors of the seven communities that will form it, so that the new ACE can begin its journey with adequate structures.

Carlos Kabumba Balezi was born on January 20, 1980, in Bukavu, North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the diocese of Goma, son of Balezi and Mwama Bulingi. He completed his novitiate at the house of Gatenga in Rwanda, making his first religious profession on August 15, 2004, in Goma. He renewed his vows in various communities of the DRC, steadily maturing in his journey of consecration until his perpetual profession on May 1, 2011, in Lubumbashi. He was ordained a priest on August 11, 2013, in Goma.

Throughout his Salesian life, Fr Kabumba has gained rich experience in educational works and community animation. He served as vicar and school principal in the Kinshasa-Masina community, where he also acted as director. Transferred to the Africa Congo Congo (ACC) Visitatoria, he served as economer and delegate for the Salesian Family. Returning to the Africa Central (AFC) Inspectoria in 2021, he continued his service in Goma and then at Lubumbashi-Bakanja-Magone as vicar and economer, the community where he is currently based.

We ask God, through the intercession of Don Bosco, to accompany him in this new and important service to the Congregation.
