Held at the Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa, the event welcomed a large attendance of supporters. Guests were received at 1:00 pm with a prosecco reception accompanied by music from Paddy O’Neill, followed by a four-course luncheon that combined elegance with a strong sense of shared purpose.
The programme featured special appearances by the Junk Couture World Designer of the Year winners, as well as musical entertainment from John Madigan and Kevin McCarthy. A lively raffle, with an impressive range of prizes generously donated by local businesses and members of the wider school community, added to the celebratory atmosphere and contributed significantly to the fundraising effort.
A central role in organising the initiative was played by a dedicated group of Leaving Certificate students. In the weeks leading up to the event, they coordinated prize sponsorship, engaged with local enterprises and promoted the lunch within the school and parish community. On the day itself, the students welcomed guests, sold raffle tickets and modelled a Spring/Summer fashion showcase from Aisling Maher Millinery and Boutique, ensuring the smooth running of the event. Their professionalism, teamwork and commitment were a clear expression of the Salesian spirit of service and social responsibility.
During the afternoon, Gillian Baker of ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services addressed those present, outlining the vital work of the organisation and explaining how the funds raised will support women and families affected by domestic abuse. While the final amount is still being calculated, the initiative has already proven to be a significant contribution to an essential community service.
A formal cheque presentation will take place in the coming weeks, led by charity lunch coordinators Therese Hogan and Jayme McMahon together with the Leaving Certificate student committee.
The event once again demonstrated how the Salesian educational community seeks not only to form young people academically, but also to educate them in compassion, leadership and active solidarity with those most in need.
