Ecuador – The “Proyecto Salesiano Ecuador” strengthens its presence in the Amazon alongside the “Salesian Chankuap Foundation”

Founded in 1996 to address the development needs of the Shuar, Achuar and mixed-ethnicity populations living in situations of vulnerability and exclusion, the Foundation has distinguished itself through its approach centred on human dignity, equity and respect for cultural identity. Now, within the framework of the “Proyecto Salesiano Ecuador”, it will strengthen its social and educational impact in the region.

The most immediate impact of this integration will be felt at the Casa Padre Silvio Broseghini Reference Centre, the Foundation’s educational facility. Currently, this centre provides comprehensive support to 70 children and young people (aged 7 to 18) living in situations of vulnerability and social exclusion.

Through this new phase, the Centre will guarantee and enhance its core services:

Academic support: reintegration and academic enrichment programmes focused on Language and Mathematics.

Comprehensive care: daily meals and psychosocial support.

Values education: educational workshops in an atmosphere of joy and authentic Salesian spirit.

Cultural identity and a future for the Amazon

For the Shuar, Achuar and mixed-ethnicity communities in vulnerable situations, this support goes beyond the classroom. It represents a crucial opportunity for children, adolescents and young people to strengthen their cultural identity and build sustainable life plans, enabling them to participate actively in society without losing their roots.

With the incorporation of the Salesian Chankuap Foundation, the Salesian Project Ecuador is expanding its presence in the Ecuadorian Amazon and reaffirming its commitment to a holistic education that responds to diverse local realities, promoting inclusion, respect for cultural identity and close support for children, adolescents, young people and their families in situations of vulnerability and at risk of social exclusion.
