The meeting was led by Fr Rafael Bejarano, Councillor for Youth Ministry of the SDB, and Sr Runita Borja, Councillor for Youth Ministry of the FMA, and was attended by members of the Youth Ministry teams from both groups.
The discussion focused on the need to strengthen collaboration between the two groups, promoting a spirit of communion and shared responsibility in preparing initiatives for the young people of the Salesian Family.
At recent World Youth Days, members of the Salesian Family and young people from the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) have come together to celebrate the Salesian charism. This initiative is being renewed in the run-up to WYD Seoul 2027 through a specific day dedicated to SYM participants and all members of the Salesian Family, structured around three main events: the SYM Forum, the Festive Oratory and the Salesian Youth Festival.
A number of fundamental criteria for joint work were shared during the discussion: the establishment of stable and participatory coordination between the FMA and SDB; a clear definition of responsibilities in communion with the Church organisation; attention to the quality and preparation of proposals; and unified and well-coordinated communication, aimed at involving the provinces.
Finally, the importance of attention to the cultural context and the ecclesial dimension was emphasised, promoting a style of participation that is respectful and open to the universality of the Church.
In the coming weeks, various opportunities for reflection and meetings at regional level will be launched, accompanied by the dispatch of official communications offering more detailed guidance on participation in the Salesian events planned within the context of WYD.
This meeting marks the beginning of a shared journey between the FMA and SDB, aimed at making participation in the 2027 WYD in Seoul a meaningful experience of communion, formation and witness for young people in the Salesian world.
