The gathering began with an opening prayer led by Fr. Jobeth, invoking the intercession of St. Callistus Caravario. This set a reflective tone for the meeting, reminding participants of the missionary spirit and commitment to youth that the encounter seeks to promote.
An Easter message from the Rector Major was then shared by the Priests present. The message emphasized the importance of promoting peace among young people and encouraged the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) to become a living witness of unity and hope in today’s world.
The first part of the meeting included a sharing of positive realities from the provincial SYM, presented by Yoshino from Japan (GIA). It was highlighted that Christians make up less than one percent of Japan’s population, with Catholics accounting for only about 0.34 to 0.42 percent. Despite this, the Salesian Youth Movement continues to grow and inspire young people. Yoshino’s own faith journey was cited as a fruit of SYM in Japan. The presentation also noted that Japan celebrated 100 years of Salesian presence earlier this February. Participants expressed admiration for the commitment shown in promoting SYM activities despite the small number of Catholic youth.
During the reflection session, participants emphasized that SYM should be an experience of encounter with Christ. Many acknowledged that the work being done in Japan is a strong example of this vision in action. The dedication and perseverance shown in the Japanese context impressed everyone present.
The second part of the meeting reviewed decisions and resolutions from the February 12 meeting. Teaghan guided participants through the previous minutes, ensuring continuity in preparation for the Caravario Encounter.
A revised program for the Caravario Encounter was then presented by Fr. Vince SDB. The updated program is now more detailed and highlights inclusivity by involving different regions in various parts of the event. Participants welcomed the opportunity for wider participation. Fr. Vince also presented the Caravario Encounter logo, described as simple yet meaningful. Fr. Jose further contributed by presenting a newly composed theme song, noted for its catchy tune and meaningful lyrics.
In the discussion that followed, participants were encouraged to prepare assigned tasks ahead of time. Emphasis was placed on properly preparing souvenirs and bringing SYM materials for exhibition during the encounter. The meeting concluded with a reminder to participants to continue preparations ahead of the July 24 gathering.
The meeting ended with a closing prayer led by Fr. Jose, using a prayer from the Holy Father, asking especially for peace among young people and nations.
With preparations now well underway, participants expressed excitement and anticipation for the Caravario Encounter this July in the Philippines. The event is expected to bring together young people from across the East Asia Oceania District for a meaningful experience of faith, unity, and Salesian youth spirituality.
