These appointments reflect the confidence that the wider ecclesial community has in the Salesian family and its distinctive contribution to consecrated life—one rooted in human dignity, optimism, and authentic spiritual depth, capable of bringing renewed dynamism and hope to the Church in the Maltese context.
On 29 August, Fr Eric Cachia, SDB, Provincial of the Salesians in Malta, was elected President of the Maltese Conference for Consecrated Life. His appointment comes at a crucial time, as religious life is being called to deepen its witness, strengthen communion among congregations, and respond creatively to the emerging challenges and signs of the times at the diocesan level.
Further strengthening the Salesian presence within the Conference, Sr Mimosa Paluca, FMA, was more recently elected to serve on its Executive Council. Her appointment enriches the leadership with the Salesian educational charism and the feminine perspective that is central to the Church’s mission, particularly in formation and pastoral accompaniment.
Important developments have also taken place within the Institute for Consecrated Life (IĦK), the Formation Department of the Conference for Religious in Malta. Fr Charlie Said, SDB, and Fr Richard Ebejer, SDB, were unanimously proposed and accepted as Director and Secretary respectively. Their mandate places them at the heart of formation processes, fostering a renewed and shared understanding of consecrated life across different religious congregations.
The new working team of the Institute was formally entrusted with its mission during a concelebrated Eucharistic celebration presided over by His Grace Mgr. Charles J. Scicluna, Archbishop of Malta, situating this service firmly within the prayerful and ecclesial life of the local Church.
These appointments go beyond administrative responsibilities. They are tangible signs of shared leadership, collaboration, and hope for the future of consecrated life in Malta. The Salesians, together with other religious men and women, remain committed to accompanying a journey of renewal—one that seeks to rekindle enthusiasm, strengthen formation, and offer a credible, joyful, and Gospel-centered witness to Maltese society today.
With gratitude and trust, the Salesian Family looks ahead with confidence, assured that the Spirit continues to guide consecrated life along paths of communion, service, and hope.
